The entire village is now affected. Crops wither, livestock vanishes, and a pervasive sense of despair descends. The entity's influence is spreading rapidly.

The air in the village had turned sour. It wasn’t just the scent of decay from the wilting crops and the unsettling emptiness where livestock had once grazed; it was a palpable miasma of dread that clung to everything, a suffocating blanket woven from fear. Days bled into nights, each one darker and more desperate than the last. The river, once a source of life and comfort, now flowed sluggishly, its waters mirroring the leaden sky and the despair in our eyes.

I walked through the market square, or what was left of it. Stalls that had once overflowed with vibrant produce now stood forlorn, their awnings tattered, their surfaces dusty and barren. A few villagers huddled together, their faces gaunt, their conversations hushed whispers that died as soon as I drew near. They looked at me with a mixture of accusation and desperate hope, as if I, Daniel, the boy who had found a key, held the sole power to mend what was so clearly breaking.

Mateo found me by the silent fountain, its stone cherub weeping dry tears. He looked haggard, his usual easy smile replaced by a tight line of worry. His hands, calloused from working the fields, were clenched into fists.
