Chapter 17
The Firewall Breach
The organization's secure servers are targeted. A desperate battle ensues in cyberspace as Elias and Anya fight for access to damning information.
The hum of the servers was a low, resonant thrum beneath Elias’s fingertips, a familiar lullaby that had long since replaced the silence of his apartment. Tonight, however, the lullaby was punctuated by a frantic, staccato beat – the rapid-fire keystrokes of Anya, her presence a tangible force beside him, even through the fiber optic cables that bound them. They were deep within the digital arteries of the organization, a place no outsider had ever dared to venture, and certainly no one had ever breached. The air in Elias’s small, cluttered room felt thick with anticipation, the glow of multiple monitors casting an eerie, shifting light on his face. Sweat beaded on his brow, not from the meager warmth of the room, but from the sheer intensity of the digital ballet they were performing.

But this was something else. It felt like punching through solid granite, each attempt met with an unyielding, intelligent force. "Resilient is an understatement. It’s like trying to break into a vault designed by a paranoid god." He paused, his fingers flying across the keyboard, weaving a complex tapestry of commands. "But gods can be flawed. And their vaults can have backdoors, if you know where to look."
