The hum of the server room was a familiar lullaby to Silas Vance, a low thrum that vibrated through the soles of his polished shoes and settled deep in his bones. It was a symphony of control, each whirring fan, each blinking LED, a testament to the intricate web they wove. He stood before a bank of monitors, their screens a cascade of data streams, a digital river reflecting the moonlight that spilled through the reinforced windows of their hidden headquarters. Elias Thorne was a ripple in that river, a persistent anomaly they had been tracking for months. And now, Thorne was about to make his move.

Vance had offered her a place among them, a chance to wield their power for what he deemed the greater good. She had refused, of course. Her refusal was a testament to her stubbornness, a trait he found both infuriating and, in a perverse way, admirable.
