Mark’s move wasn’t a thunderclap, more like a whisper that slithered through the humid Atlanta night, a subtle shift in the air that only the most attuned could feel. For Crash and Chris, it was just another Tuesday, another late-night hustle that felt as routine as breathing. They were holed up in their usual haunt, a dimly lit corner booth at a diner that smelled perpetually of stale coffee and desperation. The fluorescent lights hummed a mournful tune, reflecting off the cheap laminate tabletops and the weary lines etched around their eyes.

“Yo, Crash,” Chris drawled, sliding a greasy fry into his mouth. “You see that new joint down on Peachtree? Heard they got some serious bread movin’.”

Crash grunted, his gaze fixed on the flickering neon sign outside. “Peachtree’s too clean, man. Too many eyes. We stick to what we know.” His voice was rough, like gravel tumbling downhill. He was a man who liked his edges sharp, his operations predictable, or at least, predictable to him.
