Kong, Crash, and Chris cross paths with Mark. It's a tense standoff, a subtle clash of egos. Mark's cold stare promises future conflict, and Kong feels a primal fear.
The humid Atlanta air hung thick and heavy, like a damp blanket you couldn’t quite shake off. It clung to my skin, to my clothes, to the very edges of my dreams. I was leaning against the warm brick of an alleyway, the bass from some distant car stereo thrumming a familiar, restless beat against my chest. Crash and Chris were on their usual rounds, a dance of shadows and whispers that always seemed to pull me back in, no matter how hard I tried to step out. My guitar case, a scarred veteran of countless late nights and hopeful strumming sessions, sat propped against my leg, a silent testament to the life I craved.
“Yo, Kong,” Crash’s voice, a gravelly rumble, cut through the haze. He was all swagger and sharp angles, his eyes always scanning, always calculating. Chris, ever the shadow to Crash’s spotlight, flanked him, his gaze more subtle, but no less intense. They were a unit, a force, a storm I was perpetually caught in the eye of.
“What’s good, man?” I managed a smile, trying to project an ease I didn’t feel. Every time they pulled me into their orbit, a little piece of my ambition chipped away, replaced by the stale taste of the streets.
