Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Critics and Foundations
Klisto moves through a decaying urban landscape where critics who once held cultural authority have been reduced to hollow voices echoing from garbage piles. He reflects on the difference between ruling and destroying, recognizing that what has replaced authority in this place is not a new order but absence itself. A sign reading 'DK' marks territory stripped of meaning, and references to LNK Lithuania suggest a broadcasting or informational structure that has collapsed into irrelevance. Klisto encounters the remnants of critical discourse—voices that once had 'cierto fundamento,' a certain foundation—and observes how they have devolved into noise without substance. The Gradient World Jesus Christe's radiance continues to press at the edges, offering an alternative to both the Legion's rigid control and the Monkey Without Face's spreading emptiness. Klisto understands that the revolution must reclaim foundation rather than simply dismantle what exists.
The critics had lost their teeth.
Klisto walked through the corridor where their voices still echoed, bouncing off walls that had not been maintained in years. Tile surfaces cracked in patterns that resembled binary code, though no one had designed them that way. The building had once housed a broadcasting operation—LNK Lithuania, according to faded lettering above a door that no longer closed properly. Something had transmitted from here. Signals, narratives, the architecture of what people believed about the world they occupied.
Now the equipment sat in heaps. Monitors dark. Cables coiled like dead serpines across water-stained floors. Someone had spray-painted DK across the largest remaining screen, and the letters bled downward, red paint tracing paths that looked almost deliberate, as though even vandalism attempted meaning in a place where meaning had been evacuated.
