The air within the forgotten ruin was thick with the scent of damp earth and forgotten ages. Dust motes danced in the slivers of light that pierced the crumbling ceiling, illuminating walls etched with stories older than Eldoria itself. Zophia, her brow furrowed in concentration, traced the faded lines of a mural with a reverent finger. Arin stood guard at the entrance, his hand never far from the hilt of his sword, his gaze sweeping the shadows, ever vigilant.
“This is it, Arin,” Zophia murmured, her voice hushed with awe. “The chronicles spoke of a place where the old bloodlines were recorded, a repository of truths the current court would rather forget.” She pointed to a series of figures painted in ochre and indigo. “Look here. This is not the royal crest of Eldoria. These symbols… they speak of a lineage predating the founding of our kingdom, a line that was meant to wield a power far greater than any crown.”
Arin moved closer, his armored boots crunching softly on the debris. He peered at the intricate carvings, his knightly training offering little insight into their arcane meaning. “And this relates to Alyla?” he asked, the question laced with a familiar ache of worry.
