Silas attempts his first act of sabotage, subtly messing with the carnival's water supply. Kayson and his team must figure out the cause.

The air in the old soda fountain, usually thick with the sweet, sticky scent of syrup and dreams, now carried a faint, unsettling tang. Kayson, ever the optimist, was attempting to resurrect the once-proud milkshake machine, a chrome behemoth that had seen better days, much like the rest of the carnival. He’d managed to coax a low, wheezing hum from its depths, a promising sign, but the crucial ingredient – water – was proving… peculiar.

“This is… bubbly,” Kayson said, his brow furrowed as he stared into the mixing chamber. A cascade of foam, far more vigorous than anticipated, was erupting from the spout. It wasn’t the creamy, desirable froth of a well-made milkshake; this was an effervescent explosion, tinged with an odd, almost metallic shimmer.

Ms. Periwinkle, who had been meticulously cataloging a box of forgotten carnival tickets with the precision of a seasoned archivist, peered over her spectacles. “Bubbly, Kayson? Milkshakes are meant to be smooth, not… volcanic.” She adjusted her glasses, her stern gaze sweeping over the scene. “And that smell… it’s not quite cherry, is it?”
