Chapter 9
The First Stand
Luna, with the white wolf at her side, leads the charge against the Shadow Beast. Her bravery inspires her pack, turning the tide in a fierce battle on the snow-covered plains.
The wind howled, a mournful symphony that whipped snow into a frenzy, obscuring the jagged edges of the world. Luna, her small body trembling not just from the biting cold but from a primal fear, pressed herself against the icy rock. The blizzard had been a beast of its own, tearing her from her mother’s side, from the comforting scent of her pack, and spitting her out into this desolate, terrifying place. Below, the chasm yawned, a hungry maw promising oblivion. She whined, a tiny sound lost in the tempest.
Then, a presence. Not of the storm, but within it. A stillness that cut through the chaos. Luna’s ears twitched, her amber eyes, wide with apprehension, searched the swirling white. And there he was. A silhouette of pure, unblemished snow against the bruised purple sky. The White Wolf. He was larger than any wolf she had ever imagined, his coat a cascade of moonlight, his eyes like chips of ancient ice, holding a wisdom that seemed to predate the mountains themselves. He moved with a grace that defied the treacherous terrain, his paws finding purchase where none should exist.
He reached her ledge with a silent, fluid motion, his gaze steady and assessing. There was no aggression, only a profound calm that seeped into Luna’s frantic heart. He nudged her gently with his massive head, a gesture that spoke volumes: You are not alone. With a strength that belied his apparent gentleness, he guided her, nudging her back from the brink, leading her to a sheltered alcove where the wind’s fury was softened to a whisper. He stayed with her through the long, cold night, a silent sentinel, his warmth a beacon against the encroaching frost.
