The moonlight, usually a soft, ethereal glow that painted my bedroom in shades of silver, felt heavy tonight. It pressed down, a tangible weight, mirroring the unspoken burden that had settled between Jaehyun and me. We sat on the edge of my bed, the same bed where his spectral form had first appeared, whispering secrets of a world I never knew existed. Now, he was flesh and blood, and the secrets he carried felt even more profound.

He traced the worn stitching on my duvet with a fingertip, his gaze distant, lost somewhere in the labyrinth of his memories. The usual sparkle in his eyes, the one that could ignite a stadium, was dimmed, replaced by a haunting shadow. I ached to reach out, to pull him back from wherever his thoughts had taken him, but a strange, respectful silence held me captive. This was a different kind of performance, one of raw vulnerability, and I was just an audience member, privileged to witness it.

"There was a time," he began, his voice a low murmur, barely disturbing the quiet, "before you, before all of this… a mission. It felt simpler then, or maybe I was just younger, more foolish." He offered a ghost of a smile, a fleeting glimpse of the Jaehyun I knew, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "We were hunting a different kind of darkness. Not a singular entity like the Shadow Demon, but a more insidious presence. It preyed on doubt, on the cracks in people’s hearts."
