The morning sun, a gentle painter, brushed streaks of rose and gold across Tamesha’s windowpane. It was a familiar sight, one she had often greeted with a sigh, a silent plea for strength to face another day. But this morning, as the light warmed her skin, something felt different. A quiet hum vibrated beneath the surface of her being, a subtle shift that had been building for weeks, like the slow unfurling of a tightly budded flower.

She sat up, her limbs feeling lighter than they had in years. The persistent ache in her shoulder, a constant companion for so long, had receded to a dull whisper, almost an afterthought. It wasn’t gone entirely, not yet, but the sharp edges had softened, replaced by a comforting warmth. She flexed her fingers, watching them move with a fluidity that surprised her. A small smile touched her lips. It was a tentative smile, one that hadn’t quite learned to trust itself, but it was there.

“Thank you,” she whispered to the empty room, the words catching in her throat. It wasn’t a desperate cry this time, but a soft acknowledgment, a recognition. Thank you for the light, for the lessening of pain, for the simple act of being able to move without wincing. Thank you for this breath, for this moment.
