The air in the cavern, once thick with the intoxicating scent of ancient gold, now crackled with a chilling silence. Lily’s heart, which had been soaring with the thrill of discovery, plummeted into a pit of icy dread. Her father’s eyes, usually bright with the glint of adventure, were now hard and cold, reflecting the shimmering hoard like shards of obsidian. He spoke, his voice a low rumble that sent shivers down Lily’s spine, not of shared triumph, but of a chilling finality. “No one must know, Lily. No one.”

Her father froze, his head snapping up, his predatory gaze darting towards the cavern entrance. Lily, equally startled, turned her head, her eyes wide with a flicker of desperate hope.
