The Accidental Art Critic

Bea drags Arthur to a local art exhibition. Arthur, trying to be polite, offers a hilariously literal interpretation of a modern art piece, much to the artist's confusion and Bea's barely suppressed giggles.

Arthur Pendelton considered himself a man of quiet contemplation. His days unfolded with a gentle rhythm, each moment meticulously placed, much like the perfectly brewed tea leaves steeping in his favourite porcelain cup. This Tuesday, however, the rhythm was decidedly off-beat. Beatrice “Bea” Miller, his best friend and the human equivalent of a glitter bomb exploding in a library, had declared it “Art Appreciation Day.”

“Come on, Artie!” Bea had chirped, her voice a melody of enthusiastic urgency, as she’d burst through his front door that morning, a whirlwind of brightly coloured scarf and infectious energy. “You need to broaden your horizons! Expand your aesthetic sensibilities!”

Arthur, who was carefully aligning his collection of vintage fountain pens, had sighed. “Bea, my aesthetic sensibilities are perfectly content with the elegantly functional design of a well-maintained garden gnome.”
