Chapter 5
The Great Pigeon Conspiracy
Arthur becomes convinced a particular pigeon is deliberately targeting him. Bea fuels his theory with elaborate, fictional scenarios, leading to comical stakeouts and misunderstandings in the local park.
Arthur Pendelton had always considered himself a man of routine. His mornings were a symphony of precisely measured tea leaves, a gentle hum of the kettle, and the quiet rustle of the newspaper. Evenings were for a predictable supper and a chapter of a well-worn novel. This meticulous order was his sanctuary, a bulwark against the unpredictable tides of existence. Arthur, a man prone to overthinking, began to connect the dots. This wasn't mere coincidence. This was targeted.
"It's Bartholomew," Arthur declared one afternoon, his voice hushed with a mixture of dread and indignation. He was seated opposite Beatrice at their usual table in Penelope’s cozy café, a half-eaten scone forgotten between them.
