Chapter 11
Liz's Silent Strength
Liz Bennett, usually reserved, reveals her own formidable combat skills. Her armor and strategy prove crucial in a desperate defense against overwhelming odds.
The chill of the basement air clung to Maverick’s skin, a stark contrast to the inferno of red that had momentarily enveloped him. He watched, wide-eyed, as the old man, James Trent Williams, introduced his wife, Liz Bennett. Her presence was a quiet hum in the room, a gentle counterpoint to the sudden, explosive revelations. The beam of light from the notebook, a beacon in the dimness, had struck a plain wooden chest, and from it, a shimmer of sapphire blue had unfurled, encasing Merrick Lee Franklin in armor that mirrored the divine. Merrick, who had moments before been challenging him, now stood transformed, her skepticism replaced by a stunned, awe-struck silence.
Mr. Williams, his weathered face etched with a mixture of surprise and recognition, had merely nodded. Then, the air had rippled, and two men, their forms coalescing from the ethereal, had stepped through a newly formed portal. They too, were clad in the shimmering hues of Holy Spirit armor, a testament to the legend’s reach. Just as Maverick’s mind struggled to process the influx of impossible realities, the notebook pulsed again, this time with a golden luminescence. It flipped open, revealing an intricate cross, and a voice, resonant and powerful, filled the space, announcing, "My name is Jennifer, and you chosen ones."
Now, the four of them – Maverick, Merrick, James, and Liz – were huddled in the cramped basement, the air thick with unspoken questions and the lingering scent of ozone. Jennifer, or rather, the voice that had proclaimed her name, remained unseen, her presence a palpable force. James Trent Williams, ever the steady hand, guided them. "This is not a safe place for long," he said, his voice a low rumble. "The Darkness is relentless. We need to move, and we need to move now."
