Chapter 12
Achmed's Unexpected Nuance
Achmed begins to explore more complex themes, his controversial persona softened by a touch of self-awareness. His jokes land differently, sparking thought as much as laughter.
Achmed the Dead Terrorist, usually a whirlwind of politically incorrect zingers and eyebrow-raising pronouncements, had been quieter than usual. Not silent, mind you, because Achmed’s silence was a rare and frankly unnerving phenomenon, like a volcano deciding to take a nap. Walter, bless his cantankerous soul, was still grumbling about the concept of "woke comedy" and how it was sucking the joy out of life, while Peanut was doing his usual impression of a sugar-fueled hummingbird. But Achmed, instead of launching into a tirade about infidels or the general inconvenience of being deceased, had paused.
"You know," Achmed had said, his voice a low rumble that usually preceded something entirely inappropriate, "sometimes, when I think about the jokes, I think about the… the impact. Not just the laugh, you see?"
