Following the prince's secret knowledge, Jane confronts the ogre's vulnerability. The ogre's magical abilities, tied to his secret, become his undoing as Jane exploits it.

The air in the ogre's cavern, thick with the stench of stale sweat and something vaguely fungal, vibrated with a low, guttural rumble. It wasn't the storm brewing outside, though that was certainly contributing to the oppressive atmosphere. This was the sound of the ogre, Grokk, pacing. Jane, hidden behind a colossal pile of what appeared to be discarded, moss-covered armour, held her breath, her heart a frantic bird against her ribs. Beside her, the Prince, his handsome face etched with a mixture of fear and a strange, dawning hope, pressed a finger to his lips.

"He's agitated," the Prince whispered, his voice barely audible above the heavy thuds of Grokk's feet. "The curse… it senses a shift. He knows something is amiss."

Jane nodded, her gaze fixed on the hulking figure of the ogre. Grokk was a mountain of muscle and matted fur, his skin the colour of bruised plums. His eyes, small and beady, darted around the cavern, suspicion glinting within them. He clutched a gnarled staff, its head carved into the likeness of a snarling beast, and Jane knew, with a certainty that settled deep in her gut, that this was the source of his power. The Prince had revealed it to her in hushed, urgent tones earlier, after their narrow escape from Grokk’s kitchen. It wasn't just a staff; it was a conduit, a focal point for the dark magic that bound him, and, by extension, the Prince.
