The Ogre's Rage

The ogre discovers Jane's presence and her interference. Enraged, he unleashes his power, becoming a formidable obstacle. The prince, spurred by Jane's courage, begins to show his own strength.

The air in the castle, once thick with the scent of old parchment and dust, now vibrated with a primal, guttural roar. It was a sound that clawed at the very foundations of the stone, a sound that spoke of earth-shattering fury and monstrous hunger. Jane froze, her hand still resting on the prince’s arm, a sudden chill seeping through the warmth of their shared moment. The prince’s eyes widened, a flicker of dread eclipsing the hopeful light that had begun to bloom there.

“He knows,” the prince whispered, his voice barely audible above the rising tempest outside. “He knows you are here.”

Jane’s heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. She had anticipated this, of course. Her plan, however clever, had always hinged on the Ogre’s eventual discovery. But anticipation was a pale shadow of the reality now bearing down upon them. The very stones of the castle seemed to tremble as if in sympathy with the Ogre’s wrath. Dust rained down from the vaulted ceilings, and the flickering torchlight danced wildly, casting grotesque shadows that writhed and contorted like tormented souls.
