Chapter 12
A Royal Promise
Back in the Prince's world, they are welcomed as heroes. The Evil Advisor's role is revealed, perhaps as a trickster who set Jane on her path. Jane and the Prince begin their reign, their adventure a testament to bravery and love.
The air, once thick with the cloying scent of the ogre's lair and the metallic tang of conflict, now tasted clean and crisp, like the first breath of spring after a long, frozen winter. Jane stood beside the Prince, his hand warm and steady in hers, as they descended the last, familiar rungs of the colossal beanstalk. Below them, not the humble cottage of her past, but a bustling courtyard pulsed with vibrant life, a tapestry woven from the joyous shouts of a liberated people.
The ogre’s reign of terror had been a shadow that had stretched for generations, a suffocating blanket of fear over this once-proud kingdom. But the shadow had been lifted, not by an army, but by a girl with a mischievous glint in her eye and a prince bound by a cruel enchantment. As they stepped onto the cobblestones, a roar of applause erupted, a tidal wave of sound that washed over them, carrying with it a palpable sense of relief and gratitude. Banners, emblazoned with the royal crest, snapped in the breeze, and flower petals rained down like a colourful confetti shower.
The Prince, his noble bearing restored, his eyes now alight with the freedom he had so long been denied, turned to Jane. The subdued melancholy that had clung to him like a shroud was gone, replaced by a radiant joy that mirrored the sunshine glinting off the castle spires. "Jane," he began, his voice husky with emotion, "you have saved me. You have saved my kingdom. I owe you a debt that can never truly be repaid."
