The air in the Whispering Woods grew thick and heavy, a tangible presence that seemed to press in on Elara and Kael. Sunlight, which had dappled so cheerfully through the canopy mere hours ago, now struggled to pierce the dense foliage, casting long, dancing shadows that played tricks on the eyes. The map, unfolded between them on a moss-covered log, was no longer a simple guide; it was a riddle etched in faded ink, its symbols shifting and reforming with each new turn in the path.

"Are you sure this is right, Elara?" Kael’s voice, usually steady and sure, held a tremor of unease. He gestured towards a wall of tangled vines that seemed to swallow the very light. "It looks like… well, like nothing can get through there."

Elara traced a symbol on the parchment with a fingertip, her brow furrowed in concentration. "The map says 'The Verdant Gate.' This has to be it. Elder Maeve said the path would not be obvious." She nudged a particularly thick vine with her boot. It felt solid, unyielding. "But how do we…?"
