The air in the gallery was a hushed reverence, a stark contrast to the cacophony of whispers that had hounded Alex for weeks. Tonight, however, the whispers were of a different kind, softer, more contemplative, woven into the gentle murmur of voices admiring the canvases that lined the walls. Alex stood near a window, a mug of lukewarm tea clutched in both hands, feeling both exposed and strangely serene. It was the culmination of weeks spent wrestling with hurt, with doubt, and finally, with a fierce, quiet determination. Maya was by their side, a warm presence, her hand resting lightly on Alex’s arm.
“They’re really connecting with it, aren’t they?” Maya’s voice was a soft hum against the ambient sound.
Alex nodded, a faint smile touching their lips. “It feels… different. Like they’re actually seeing.”
