The air in the abandoned concert hall was thick with the ghosts of applause and the musty scent of decay. Dust motes danced in the slivers of light that pierced the grime-streaked windows, illuminating rows of decaying velvet seats like a graveyard of forgotten dreams. It was here, in this cathedral of silence, that I’d finally cornered him. The Sound Weaver. My own voice, a distorted, chilling echo, had led me to this place.

“Clever, aren’t you?” I rasped, my voice rough from disuse and the acrid air. My hand rested on the worn grip of my service weapon, a familiar, cold comfort. “Using my own words against me. Making me believe I was chasing shadows.”

A low chuckle rippled through the cavernous space, amplified and distorted, as if the hall itself was mocking me. It was a sound that sent a primal shiver down my spine, a testament to the Weaver’s mastery. “Shadows, Detective? Or simply the unvarnished truth, revealed through the most potent medium known to man?” The voice was a chameleon, shifting, layering, a symphony of disembodied tones. Not Elias Thorne, not Dr. Thorne, not anyone I’d heard before, yet somehow all of them.
