Lyra had led him here, to the heart of a resistance movement simmering in the shadows of Lord Valerius’s iron fist, and now, the task of integrating him into their ranks fell to another.

He didn’t have to wait long. A figure detached itself from the fringe of the gathering, moving with a fluid grace that spoke of years spent honing her craft. She was clad in practical, dark leather armor, scuffed and bearing the marks of countless skirmishes, yet it fit her like a second skin. Her hair, the color of a raven’s wing, was pulled back in a severe braid, and her eyes, a piercing shade of emerald, met Kael’s with an unnerving directness.
