Chapter 7
The Shadow of Valerius
News of Lord Valerius's iron grip and his ruthless pursuit of power reaches Kael. Lyra reveals Valerius as a significant threat, whose ambition endangers the fragile peace of the realm.

Kael’s gaze snapped to the merchant, his heart a sudden, cold knot. He had heard fragments, of course. Rumors of a powerful lord, a man who commanded armies with an iron will and a gaze that could freeze the blood. But the sheer dread in the merchant’s voice, the palpable fear that clung to him like the dust of a long journey, painted a far more vivid picture than any idle gossip.
