"She’s been quiet all day," Kael finally murmured, the words feeling heavy and foreign in the hushed night. "More than quiet. It's… different."
Lyra’s sigh was barely audible, a wisp of sound lost in the rustling leaves. "Doubt is a corrosive thing, Kael. It can wear down the strongest of wills."
