The air in the project complex buzzed like a trapped bumblebee. It was talent show night, and the makeshift stage in the courtyard, usually reserved for grumpy pigeons and stray cats, was now adorned with fairy lights and a hastily painted banner that read, "Show Us What You've Got!" Leo, Maya, and Sam huddled behind a towering recycling bin, their hearts thumping a frantic rhythm against their ribs. Leo clutched his worn notebook, its pages filled with scribbled jokes that felt more like whispered secrets than punchlines.

"You sure about this, Leo?" Maya whispered, her eyes wide with a mixture of excitement and nerves. "Jokes? About *us*?"

Sam, ever the enthusiastic sidekick, bounced on the balls of his feet. "Yeah! Remember that time Mr. Henderson's cat got stuck on the roof and we had to use Mrs. Gable's laundry pole to get it down? That was hilarious!"
