Chapter 5
Chapter 5
The day after the family learns Mike's adoption secret, Michael works alongside his father at the construction site. Mike decides to walk home early to bring a surprise for the children. On his way, he is struck by a speeding truck and dies. The family is shattered by the loss, but Michael, drawing strength from his father's legacy and love, resolves to hold the family together and continue working to save their home.

“Good morning, son,” Mike said, turning. “Eat quickly. We have bricks to move today.”
