Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Michael discovers a hidden letter from his grandfather that reveals a long-buried secret about his father's past, forcing the family to confront a painful truth and ultimately deepening their bond.
The days that followed were filled with a new kind of light. The threat of losing the house had passed, and the Langa family breathed again. Michael continued to work at the construction site, but now the weight of his bricks felt lighter, each load a step toward a future they could build together. The money Mr. Dlamini had given them covered the bank arrears and left a little extra for food and clothing. It was a Saturday afternoon, three weeks after Mr. Dlamini’s visit. The younger children were playing in the yard, their laughter mixing with the clatter of pots from the kitchen where Thandi was cooking. Nelson and Zama had gone to the market with a neighbor. Mike was at the shed, repairing a broken wheelbarrow. Michael had been tasked with cleaning out the small storage room under the stairs—a cramped space cluttered with old boxes, broken chairs, and years of forgotten belongings.
