Elara revealed Anya's true identity and the cruel deception of her abandonment. The swirling mark was not a curse, but a sign of latent, unique magic, a heritage she never knew.
The air in Master Elara’s small, cluttered study hung thick with the scent of dried herbs and old parchment. Anya, usually so quick to absorb her surroundings, felt suspended, caught in a moment where time itself seemed to have frayed at the edges. Elara’s words, so calm yet so devastating, echoed in the quiet space, each syllable a hammer blow against the fragile edifice of Anya’s known existence. Princess Anya. The title, once a distant, unattainable dream woven into bedtime stories, now settled upon her like a heavy, unfamiliar cloak.
“Princess?” Anya whispered, the word foreign on her tongue, tasting of dust and disbelief. She traced the swirling mark on her wrist, the one that had been the source of so much shame, so much ostracization. Elara’s gnarled finger, surprisingly gentle, covered it for a moment.
“Not a curse, child,” Elara’s voice was a low rumble, like distant thunder. “A sign. A mark of power, of a lineage you were stolen from.”
