The afternoon sun, a benevolent giant, cast long shadows across the dusty streets of Soweto, painting the corrugated iron roofs in hues of amber and gold. Thabo, his small frame a blur of motion, weaved through the familiar labyrinth of vendors and loiterers, his eyes sharp, always scanning. He was delivering a parcel for Mr. Mokoena, a task that had become a steady rhythm in his life, a counterpoint to the unpredictable pulse of the street. The scent of spices and freshly baked bread, a comforting aroma that always settled his nerves, wafted out to meet him. Mr. Mokoena, his face creased with a gentle wisdom, looked up from behind the counter, a warm smile blooming on his lips.
