Car Washing Calamity

Leo, never one to be deterred by a few deflated balloons or a flock of peckish pigeons, surveyed his dwindling coin jar. The super-cool bicycle, with its gleaming chrome handlebars and fiery red frame, seemed to wink at him from its perch in the bike shop window, a silent, taunting promise. He’d tried collecting, he’d tried lemonade, and he’d even braved the slobbery affections of half the neighborhood’s canine population. None of it had quite added up to enough for that dream machine. A new idea, however, bubbled up in Leo’s mind, as refreshing as a cool drink on a hot day. Cars! People always needed their cars washed, right? It was a surefire way to get his hands on some serious cash.

He rummaged through the garden shed, a treasure trove of forgotten tools and dusty odds and ends. A bucket, thankfully intact, was unearthed. A hose, a bit kinked but functional, was located next. The real challenge was finding something to make the cars sparkle. He remembered seeing his mom use a special soap for dishes, a bright blue liquid that promised “sparkling clean.” Surely, that would work on cars too! He’d just need a little bit, a tiny splash, to make his car wash business the most spectacular in the whole neighborhood.

The next Saturday dawned bright and sunny, perfect weather for a car wash. Leo set up his operation on the corner, his bucket and hose laid out with the serious intent of a seasoned entrepreneur. He’d even made a sign, scrawled on a piece of cardboard with a thick black marker: “LEO’S LATHER UP & SHINE!” He’d practiced his sales pitch in the mirror that morning, a confident grin plastered on his face. “Get your car looking like a brand-new penny!” he’d declared to his reflection.
