His tasks were simple: watering her prize-winning petunias, sweeping her walkway until it shone like a polished sidewalk, and, his personal favorite, collecting the mail from her mailbox, always making sure to sort it neatly on her hall table. Mrs. Gable, with her soft eyes and a smile that crinkled the corners of her mouth, paid him a little something for each completed chore. It wasn't a fortune, not by a long shot, but it was *his*.
