The air in the celestial observatory, once thick with the scent of aged parchment and starlight, now thrummed with a discordant hum. Elara traced the etched constellations on the polished obsidian floor, each swirl and point a familiar landmark in the vastness of her studies. Yet, tonight, the familiar felt alien, the celestial cartography a map of a world subtly, disturbingly altered. Master Kaelen stood by the great orrery, his silhouette a stark contrast against the faint glow of manufactured nebulae. His usual stoic composure was fractured, a tremor in his hand as he adjusted a brass planet.

“The whispers are growing louder, Elara,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the very stone of the observatory. “The threads unravel faster than we can mend them.”

Elara’s gaze drifted to a celestial sphere, a perfect replica of their known cosmos. It pulsed with an unnatural light, a faint, sickly green marring its familiar cerulean hue. This was the echo of the fracture, the wound in reality that had bled into her world, shattering the illusion of normalcy. She remembered the sudden shift, the sickening lurch, the way familiar streets had twisted into impossible geometries for mere heartbeats. And then, the creeping dread, the understanding that the solid ground beneath her feet was no longer as solid as it seemed.
