Chapter 11
Derrick gets patched up at the medic station. The group gets a car and drives to a community college to set up a lab. On the way, Marcus and Maya share a quiet moment and hold hands, building romantic tension. At the college, they meet Hollis again, who reveals he used to be a chemist and helped write the original research that led to Bliss. He offers to help them analyze the new compound. They enter the building to begin the next phase of their mission.
The medic station was a white tent propped up in the middle of a gravel lot, surrounded by idling cruisers. Inside, a tired-looking woman with a stethoscope around her neck waved them over without looking up.
“Sit,” she said, pointing at a folding chair. “Which one’s hurt?”
Derrick raised his bandaged arm. “Just a scratch, really.”
