Elias stood before the altar, his heart a frantic drum against his ribs, the weight of the artifact heavy in his trembling hands. It pulsed with a soft, ethereal light, a counterpoint to the encroaching darkness that writhed and coalesced at the edge of his vision.

He had seen it before, this shadow, in the fragmented visions that had haunted him, a formless dread that whispered of forgotten sins and twisted desires. Now, it solidified, a silhouette against the dim luminescence of the chamber, its edges indistinct, its presence a suffocating pressure. It was not a ghost, not a spirit in the traditional sense, but something older, something that fed on doubt and despair.

“You cannot stop me,” a voice slithered into Elias’s mind, a dry rustle like dead leaves skittering across a tombstone. It was not spoken aloud, but imprinted directly onto his consciousness, invasive and chilling. “This power belongs to the void. It is mine to consume.”
