The weight of Rose’s words pressed down on me, heavier than any gown I’d ever worn. It wasn't just the abuse, the coldness, the racing – it was the reason behind it all, the suffocating fear that had been Diego’s constant companion for years. He hadn't just been running from the law; he’d been running from his father, from the ghosts of his childhood, from the very idea of love.
