Across the vast expanse of polished obsidian that served as their audience chamber, Kael stood beside his mother, the Umbra Queen, his jaw set in a familiar, stoic line that did little to betray the tempest brewing within him. It had been Elder Lyra, her eyes clouded with the weight of visions, who had first approached Elara. Not with a gentle nudge, but with a firm, unwavering declaration. “The veil has thinned, child. Your secret dances in the light, and the shadows are not far behind.” Elara had dismissed it as another of Lyra’s cryptic pronouncements, a warning of a future yet unwritten. She had been wrong. So terribly wrong.

The discovery had been swift, brutal. A stray messenger, intercepted on the borderlands, carrying not troop movements or reconnaissance reports, but a hastily scribbled note from Kael to Elara. A note filled with stolen moments, whispered promises, and the raw, untamed confession of a love that had burned beneath the surface for so long. The Lumina guard, ever vigilant, had delivered it to the King, their faces a mixture of horror and grim satisfaction. The Umbra court, it seemed, had experienced a similar revelation, General Vorlag’s triumphant sneer a testament to his long-held suspicions.
