Chapter 7
Victory's Hand
The combined strength of the heroes, guided by Jack's unique insight, culminates in the defeat of the tyrannical Joker. The kingdom is saved, thanks to the lowest card.
The air crackled, not with the usual static of magic and anticipation, but with the raw, untamed energy of chaos unleashed. The Joker, a swirling vortex of dark laughter and malevolent intent, loomed over the battlefield, a grotesque mockery of power. Before him, the heroes stood, a tableau of defiance, yet the shadow of defeat clung to them like a shroud. Sir Reginald’s shield, usually an impenetrable bastion, bore deep gouges, its polished surface marred by the Joker's vicious assaults. Lyra, her brow furrowed in intense concentration, chanted incantations that faltered, the magical threads of her spells fraying against the Joker’s overwhelming aura. He stood a little apart, his heart a frantic drum against his ribs, his eyes wide. He’d seen it, hadn’t he? Not the grand, sweeping attacks, but the tiny, almost imperceptible flickers, the infinitesimal hesitations in the Joker’s movements. It wasn't a weakness in his power, not in the way they understood power. It was a *quirk*. A tell.
“He’s… he’s waiting,” Jack whispered, the words barely audible above the din.
