Chapter 35
The Legend of the Midnight Eves
Hoodon is part of another organization,an organization that is not the Council of the Crystals but is working alongside the Council of the Crystals. It is called the Midnight Eves. Dennis Longshun is currently leading both the Council of the Crystals and the Midnight Eves organizations. When Cassie Shrout saw a typhoon head out of the city, she followed it out of curiosity and found Betty and Marianne, lying on the ground. Cassie Shrout told them that she has the power to enhance other powers, including her own. Betty and Marianne decided to take the chance, wanting to defeat Hoodon and get her back for what she did to them.
The city exhaled the day's heat in shimmering waves, the sky above a bruised palette of twilight purples and dying oranges. Cassie Shrout, her senses honed by years of navigating the city's hidden currents, was the first to register the aberration. Curiosity, a familiar, insistent tug, pulled her towards the receding tempest. Her boots crunched on forgotten detritus, the wind whispering secrets she strained to decipher.
She found them sprawled amongst a field of wilting wildflowers, like discarded dolls left behind by a careless giant. Betty, her normally vibrant aura dimmed to a faint pulse, lay unnervingly still, the phantom ache of Hoodon’s overwhelming power a fresh wound. Beside her, Marianne, equally breathless, managed only a pained groan, her own powers a depleted ember, her spirit flickering precariously.
“Are you two alright?” Cassie’s voice, usually a clear bell, was tinged with a genuine concern that sliced through the lingering despair.
