Chapter 19
Inner Circle
A week and two days later, Billy and Lisa are relaxing at the Black Beginners' hideout with Scott and the other eight members. A summons arrives from SuperSeven: an award ceremony in Buenos Aires. Cassie Shrout volunteers to accompany them. Upon arrival, they reunite with Betty, Kastor, and Lori, setting the stage for a significant event that brings heroes from various factions together, hinting at a broader landscape of heroes and their accomplishments.
A week and two days had melted away since the chaotic echoes of the Cave of the Underworld had finally faded from their minds. The Black Beginners’ hideout, a sanctuary of worn leather and the faint scent of ozone, was a welcome balm to their frayed nerves. Billy Rodrick, known to the world as Waterloo, found himself sprawled on a plush, slightly lumpy sofa, the familiar weight of his Sword of Slayers resting against his thigh. Beside him, Lisa Parkers, Blaze Z in the heat of battle, meticulously polished her favorite gravity gauntlet, her brow furrowed in concentration. The eight other members of the Black Beginners were scattered throughout the spacious common area, some engaged in quiet contemplation, others in lighthearted banter. Scott Wonders, ever the pragmatist, was poring over a holographic training manual, his lips moving silently as he absorbed its contents.
A sudden, sharp chime cut through the relative tranquility. A holographic projector flickered to life in the center of the room, coalescing into the stern, yet familiar, visage of SuperSeven, the current holder of the Ultimate Hero title. His voice, resonant and carrying an undeniable authority, filled the space.
"Heroes of the Black Beginners," SuperSeven began, his gaze sweeping across the assembled individuals, lingering for a moment on Billy and Lisa. "Your recent endeavors in the Cave of the Underworld have not gone unnoticed. Your courage, your resilience, and your burgeoning teamwork have earned commendation. Therefore, I summon you to Buenos Aires. An award ceremony will be held to honor your achievements, as well as those of other heroes who have demonstrated exceptional valor. Details will be transmitted to your team’s secure channel."
