Chapter 15
The Devil's Objective
Billy collapses, mortally wounded. Betty, seeing him bleed out, panics and rushes him to Lori for healing. Meanwhile, Betty feels an irresistible pull towards a dark, powerful artifact: the Devil's Spear. Unaware of its true nature, she grasps it. Loon, his memory fully restored, heals himself. As Betty examines the spear, a small red dragon appears, revealing its origins and purpose. The weapon of darkness and destruction pulses with malevolent energy, and Betty is unknowingly falling under its influence.
The air in the cavern, once thick with the metallic tang of battle and the faint earthy scent of damp stone, now held a different, more chilling aroma. It was the scent of spilled life, of a hero’s vitality draining away onto the cold, unforgiving ground. Billy Rodrick, Waterloo, lay sprawled amidst the debris of his intense struggle with Loon Unger. His usually vibrant blue eyes, the color of a clear summer sky, were clouded with pain, fluttering weakly. A dark, viscous pool was spreading beneath him, a stark contrast to the pristine blue of his water-based powers. The Sword of Slayers lay discarded a few feet away, its dark metal glinting dully in the sparse light.
Betty Rodrick, Super Lavender, felt a sickening lurch in her stomach. She had been so focused on her own burgeoning connection with the artifact, the strange, dark pull that had consumed her senses, that she hadn't seen the full extent of Billy's injuries. Now, seeing him, her brother, her rival, bleeding out like any ordinary mortal, a wave of pure panic washed over her. The carefully constructed walls of ambition and competition she had built around herself crumbled in an instant.
"Billy!" Her voice, usually controlled and laced with a hint of playful arrogance, was a strangled cry. She scrambled towards him, her black magic powers flaring erratically, a tempest of uncontrolled energy. The wind whipped around her, not with the directed force of her trained abilities, but with the frantic desperation of a trapped bird. Mist swirled, obscuring her vision, mirroring the turmoil in her mind.
