But tonight, the usual sharp edges of her focus were softened, blurred by a single, insistent image: Mika. The scent of lilies and sunshine, the gentle cadence of her hands arranging petals, the silent, expressive dance of her eyes – it was an invasion of her meticulously guarded fortress, and Shella found herself strangely… welcoming it.

Dante stood before her desk, his posture rigid, his gaze a mixture of frustration and thinly veiled contempt. He was a relic of Shella’s past, a man forged in the same brutal fires that had shaped her, but his loyalty was a wilting flower, its scent soured by Shella’s recent deviations from the expected path. “You’re playing a dangerous game, Shella,” he said, his voice a low growl that had once commanded respect, but now only grated against her nerves. “This… fixation. It’s weakening you.”

Shella leaned back in her chair, the plush leather a familiar comfort, but her gaze was fixed on something far beyond Dante’s scowling face. She saw Mika’s small smile, the way her eyes crinkled at the corners when she was truly happy. “Weakening me?” Shella’s voice was smooth, deceptively so. “Or making me stronger, Dante? Perhaps you’re simply afraid of what you don’t understand.”
