Chris hides her restless feelings from David while cooking breakfast, then meets Sophia for a walk, where her daughter gently presses her about her sadness. Later, Chris calls Leo, who admits he's struggling, and she finds the courage to tell him she loves him. A text from Ethan asking to see her again leaves her torn between her past and present.
The morning light crept through the curtains, soft and grey, a muted dawn that matched the quiet heaviness in Chris's chest. She had slept little, her mind turning over the same thoughts like stones in a stream, and now her body felt leaden, every movement an effort. Beside her, David stirred, his breathing shifting from deep sleep to wakefulness. He rolled over and blinked at the ceiling.
"What time is it?" he asked, his voice rough.
"Just past six," she said. "I'll start breakfast."
