Chapter 4
Whispers of the Past
Anya's bewilderment gives way to curiosity. Elara, despite her regal bearing, possesses a warmth that intrigues Anya. Subtle hints about their shared history surface.
The gilded cage, Anya had always thought, was simply a metaphor for her life. She hadn't truly understood its bars until the gilded doors swung open and revealed not the prince charming she'd been promised, but a queen. Instead, there had been polite invitations to meals, brief, intelligent conversations about the state of the kingdoms, and a surprising amount of shared silence that wasn't awkward, but rather, companionable. It was this quiet grace that gnawed at Anya. Elara was undeniably regal, her presence commanding, yet there was an undercurrent of… something else. A warmth that belied her formidable reputation.
