It was a sound Anya, accustomed to the silken quiet of her ducal upbringing, had initially found jarring. Now, it felt like the prelude to a symphony, or perhaps a riot. She wasn’t quite sure which yet.
Their wedding, a spectacle that had defied every expectation Anya had ever harbored, had thrown their meticulously ordered world into a delightful, terrifying disarray. “Are you quite sure you wouldn’t prefer some tea, Your Majesty?” Anya asked, her voice a little too bright, a little too eager. Elara, who had been poring over a stack of documents at a nearby writing desk, looked up, a faint smile playing on her lips.
