The gilded tapestries of the royal reception hall, once a symbol of triumph and unity, now seemed to hang with a certain, almost accusatory, weight. Anya, still navigating the dizzying terrain of being a newlywed Queen – a title that still felt like a borrowed gown, a little too grand and a little too unfamiliar – found herself acutely aware of the hushed tones that followed her and Elara like a persistent shadow. It wasn't just the usual gossip that swirled around any royal union; this was different. This was the murmur of disapproval, the sharp intake of breath that spoke of judgment, the thinly veiled questions that hung in the air like dust motes in a sunbeam.

“They’re staring again, you know,” Anya murmured to Elara, her voice barely a breath as they stood in a corner, forcing smiles at a group of minor dignitaries who seemed more interested in observing their dynamic than engaging in pleasantries. Elara’s hand, warm and firm, rested on Anya’s waist, a constant, grounding presence.

Elara chuckled, a low, rich sound that vibrated against Anya’s side. “Let them stare, my love. It’s the privilege of those who have nothing better to do.” She leaned closer, her lips brushing Anya’s ear. “Besides, if they’re staring at us, they’re not busy plotting against us. A strategic advantage, wouldn’t you say?”
