The air in my throne room, usually thick with the scent of brimstone and despair, seemed to shimmer with an unbidden tension. It was a subtle thing, a tremor beneath the surface of my carefully constructed dominion, and it emanated, as always, from the human. Evan Aris. He sat before me, not bound, not kneeling, but simply… present. A stark anomaly in the tapestry of Hell. His eyes, the color of a storm-tossed sea, held a quiet defiance that both infuriated and fascinated me. I had grown accustomed to fear, to groveling, to the desperate pleas of the damned. Evan offered none of it. He offered only himself, an enigma wrapped in mortal flesh.

"You are remarkably composed for a prisoner," I stated, my voice a low rumble that usually sent shivers down the spines of lesser beings. He merely tilted his head, a faint, almost imperceptible smile gracing his lips. It was a gesture so devoid of malice, so utterly un-demonic, that it felt like a foreign language spoken in my own halls.

"What purpose would panic serve, Lord Vale?" he asked, his voice soft, yet carrying an unexpected clarity. "You brought me here. You have the power to do with me as you wish. My fear would only amuse you, and I doubt it would change my fate."
