The silence in the chamber was a physical presence, thick and suffocating, broken only by the rhythmic drip of something unseen from the vaulted ceiling. I sat on the cold, obsidian floor, the rough texture chafing against my bare skin. My hands, bound behind me with chains that felt unnervingly light, were beginning to grow numb. It had been days, perhaps weeks, since I’d been dragged through those infernal gates, since I’d last seen the sun, or felt anything remotely akin to warmth.
Lucien Vale. The name itself was a decree, a brand seared into the very fabric of this realm. He sat on his throne, a monstrous construct of jagged obsidian and shadowed iron, his presence a vortex of cold, terrifying power. His eyes, the color of a storm-ravaged sea, were fixed on me, and in their depths, I saw not hatred, nor even curiosity, but something far more unsettling. It was an assessment, a deep, probing analysis that stripped me bare, leaving me feeling more exposed than I ever had, even when I’d woken up in this place with no memory of who I was.
He had questioned me, of course. His voice, a low, resonant rumble that vibrated through the stone and into my bones, had probed at my blank slate, searching for an answer I didn't possess. Who was I? How had I come to be in Hell? What was my purpose? I had nothing to offer but my own bewilderment, my own gnawing fear. And yet, he hadn’t broken me. He hadn’t subjected me to the tortures I’d heard whispered about, the ones that made even the most hardened demons tremble. Instead, he watched. He waited.
