Stardust and Promises

The late afternoon sun, a warm honey spill, painted the quad in hues of gold and amber. Jaylynn and Krit stood amidst the dwindling crowd, a pocket of quiet in the buzzing aftermath of the school day. It felt like the world had paused, holding its breath just for them. Krit’s hand, calloused and strong, was loosely clasped around hers, his thumb tracing absentminded circles on her skin. The easy intimacy of the gesture, once a foreign concept, now felt as natural as breathing.

“So,” Jaylynn began, her voice soft, a melody woven with relief and a nascent joy that still felt a little fragile, like spun glass. “This is it, huh? The new beginning.”
