Fox's Fright
The fox, thoroughly bewildered and a little spooked by the unexpected events, begins to think Sunny Meadow is more trouble than it's worth. He's never encountered such a peculiar place.
Flicker the fox, usually a creature of swift decision and unwavering purpose, found himself in a state of profound bewilderment. Sunny Meadow, a place that had promised a feast of plump rabbits and plump squirrels, had become a labyrinth of unsettling disturbances. He’d stalked through the tall grasses, his nose twitching, his senses on high alert, only to be met with a cacophony of unnerving sounds and fleeting glimpses of… something.
He paused at the edge of the whispering woods, the dense foliage a stark contrast to the open expanse of the meadow. His ears, usually so sharp, twitched independently, trying to decipher the rustling leaves from the phantom footsteps he seemed to be hearing. Just moments ago, as he’d crept towards the old oak, a sudden, deafening *CRASH* had erupted from the undergrowth. He’d leaped back, his heart hammering against his ribs, only to see a pile of dry leaves tumble down an embankment, as if dislodged by an invisible force. It was too deliberate, too sudden to be natural.
He shook his head, trying to clear the fog of confusion. He was Flicker, the terror of the valley, the hunter who never missed. He didn’t get spooked by falling leaves. But this… this was different. He’d seen a flash of grey fur, impossibly fast, darting behind a cluster of ferns, but before he could even lunge, a series of sharp, high-pitched whistles, like a flock of startled birds, had erupted from the opposite direction. It was a diversion, he knew it, but a diversion from what?
